This album includes an exclusive previously unreleased recording! “A triumph.” The Sunday Times When Ali met Ry Cooder in 1992 they really bonded and Ali later presented him with the first instrument he made, a one-string lute called a djerkal. Recorded in just three days in LA in 1993 the resulting collaboration 'Talking Timbuktu' well deserved its Grammy Award. Relaxed and accessible, the music is complimented by Ry's subtle guitar work and sensitive production while retaining the integrity of Ali's performance. Ali Farke Toure and Ry Cooder have long treasured each other’s recordings. They first met in London in 1992 while both were touring Europe. It was agreed that they should 'try something together'.
This ‘something’ became ‘Talking Timbuktu’, a Grammy award-winning classic album. In September '93 Toure was set to play a string of dates in the States and a week was set aside for recording his new album.
Cooder was to play on a couple of tracks. A few hours’ rehearsal at Cooder's Santa Monica home hinted at inspiring possibilities.
The Malian guitarist's next three Californian dates all featured Cooder as special guest. The recording followed a week later by which time Cooder had agreed to produce the entire album and play on every track. The whole album, recorded in three days, is now available on vinyl with an additional previously unreleased track.

He is a multi-instrumentalist but is best known for his work, his interest in from the United States, and his collaborations with traditional musicians from many countries. Cooder's solo work draws upon many genres. He has played with, and Carla Olson & the Textones (on record and film). He formed the band.
He also produced the album (1997), which became a worldwide hit. Directed the (1999), which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2000. Cooder was ranked eighth on magazine's 2003 list of 'The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time' (David Fricke's Picks).
A 2010 ranking by placed him at number 32. Music journalist Evan Schlansky said that 'Cooder’s latest effort, (released August 21, 2012, on Nonesuch/Perro Verde) doesn’t mince words. It’s designed to send a message to the “'deacons in the High Church of the Next Dollar'.” The album ( Election Special) was composed as his part in support of the and President in the 2012 American Presidential Election. On September 10, 2013, Cooder released, featuring the Corridos Famosos band, including on drums; on bass; vocalists Terry Evans, Arnold McCuller, and; on accordion; and the Mexican brass band La Banda Juvenil. The album was recorded during a two-night run at in, August 31 and September 1, 2011.
It is Cooder's first official live recording since Show Time in 1977 (which had also been recorded at Great American Music Hall). In 2015, Cooder toured with, Sharon White and other members of with their “Music for The Good People” show. The tour continued through into 2016. (primary contributor).
